What You Do for You Dave-Michael Valentine

What You Do for You

In this dark and desperate age
We all take our place upon the stage
With conviction we take our places
We’ve done the best to fix our faces
Curtain up, lights go down
Act slips from verb to noun
Part played in this passion play
Unaware if we’ll return another day

And we can try to do our best
And we can help all the rest
And we can do good things for man
Do all the best that we can
For all the things that we do
Only one things still rings true
What you do, do for you is what you lose

You’re the star of this production
We welcome you to your induction
Your tongue sharper than a sword
You can’t wait to get your award
You’re so glad to play your part
You forgot about your heart
Look up at the pale, blue sky
You can’t help but-a wonder why?

And we can try to do our best
And we can help all the rest
And we can do good things for man
Do all the best that we can
For all the things that we do
Only one things still rings true
What you do, do for you is what you lose
