A Better Day – Dave-Michael Valentine

A Better Day

Why’d you come to me and ask me why I cling to this tree?

It’s because I feel the world changing underneath my feet.

There’s so much poison in the air and everything I see.

I’m not sure what’s becoming of me.

Every day I recognize

less of yesterday’s humanity.

Chorus

I believe there’s got to be a better way.

I’m holding on for what could be a better day.

If we change our ways we might ask ourselves just why

We had to leave this earth so wounded before we had to die.

We’ve burned through every promise that tomorrow would be free.

Now we’re living with the harvest

of the things we chose to be.

Chorus

There’s got to be a way to turn this story back around.

Lay our weapons on the ground.

Learn again what hope has found.

Maybe history is waiting

for someone to choose today.

Maybe that’s how all tomorrow

begins to find its way.

Guitar Break

This old world is tired,

but it hasn’t lost its soul.

Every forest starts with one small seed.

Every river starts to flow.

If enough of us remember

who we really came to be,

maybe “better day” begins

with you…

and maybe me.

Chorus

Why’d you come to me and ask me why I cling to this tree?

Maybe somewhere deep inside

you still believe what I believe.

If one heart can choose tomorrow,

maybe two can start today.

I’m still holding on…

for what could be a better day.
